2023 has started with some very promising political action. Last December, politicians reached a crucial agreement and made a landmark declaration to implemented protected areas on 30% of the ocean and land by 2023, at the 15th UN Biodiversity Conference of the parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15). This February, the EU convened ocean stakeholders in Brussels to take stock of the initial efforts of the EU Mission ‘Restore Our Ocean and Waters’ as a building block in that direction (see below).
