May was essentially dedicated to the preparations of World Ocean Day, 8 June with the fitting UN motto ‘Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean’. Revitalization is the all important watch word and it can only be achieved by broad based collaboration addressing several front lines at once: the fisheries crisis driven largely by misplaced public policies that dish out USD 22 billion per year to massively oversized industrial long-distance fleets fishing for subsidies and depleting the resources of other countries and undermining their food security. In the process they also degrade the livelihoods of small-scale fishers particularly in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Vedi Articolo
